The Schilthorn: a Unique and Thrilling Experience in the Swiss Alps

Located 2970 metres (9744 ft) high, the Schilthorn is one of the most popular destinations to explore in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. The views from the platform at the top are an incredible experience. From here you can have a spectacular view of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and more than 200 other summits. The Piz Gloria, the world's first revolving mountain restaurant, offers you a 360° view of the alps while enjoying a meal.

The Schilthorn is also famous for being featured in the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" from 1969. At the top of the mountain you can visit the "Bond World" exhibition and follow in the footsteps of James Bond. In the "Bond Cinema" you can see the key scenes on the big screen. Outside on the mountain is "The Walk of Fame", It shows photos of actors and crew, as well as their hand prints and personal messages.

The top of the Schilthorn can be reached in 4 stages. You can take a cable car from Stechelberg or travel from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren via Grütschalp. We took the cable car from Stechelberg and enjoyed the spectacular views while going up to Gimmelwald. Find more info here on how to travel to the top of the Schilthorn.

From Gimmelwald we took the next cable car to Mürren, one of the most charming villages in Switzerland. This car-free village is the perfect stopover to walk around and discover the beauty of Switzerland. From Mürren it's also possible to take the funicular to Allmendhubel. A great place to visit with children and let them have fun at the playground or discover the flower trail. Allmendhubel also has a restaurant with a fantastic panoramic view. The funicular to Allmendhubel is a 5-minute walk from the cable car.
