Perched above the Mediterranean in Monaco-Ville, the Prince’s Palace of Monaco is the official residence of the Grimaldi family, rulers of Monaco for over seven centuries. Originally built as a Genoese fortress in 1191, the palace is steeped in history and legend.
The palace was famously seized in 1297 by François Grimaldi, who disguised himself as a monk to gain entry, an act immortalized by a statue just outside the palace gates.
