Sainte-Thérèse Basilica

Sainte-Thérèse BasilicaThe Sainte-Thérèse Basilica in Lisieux is the second largest pilgrimage site in France. It was dedicated to Sainte-Thérèse of Lisieux, a French Carmelite nun. She was declared a saint in 1925 by Pope Pius XI, 28 years after her death. Her autobiography "Story of a Soul" and her spirituality have inspired people all over the world.

The Basilica was built in Roman-Byzantine style, inspired by the Sacré-Coeur Basilica in Paris. Construction started in 1929 and finished in 1954, funded entirely by donations and contributions from several countries from around the world.
