Beersel Castle
Tuesday, March 29, 2011Beersel Castle, located in the South of Brussels, was built by Godfried van Hellebeke between 1300 and 1310. It has 3 massive watchtowers and is surrounded by a wide moat. The castle was only conquered once in its existence, by the troops of Brussels in the rebellion against Maximilian of Austria in 1489.
The castle passed through several owners and was even occupied by a cotton factory in 1818. In the 20th century, Beersel Castle was donated to an association for the protection and preservation of historical monuments. It's open for visitors every day(except Mondays) from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00.
