The Gufufoss is the largest watervall in
Seydisfjordur and a real hidden gem in East Iceland. The waterfall is approximately 27 meters (88 feet) tall, this east-facing waterfall is best viewed during sunrise. Gufufoss waterfall, which means steam waterfall, earned its name because of the heavy mists it creates that rise from the cliffside basin where it is located.
The Gufufoss is not the only watervall in the Fjardara river. When you follow the river further downstream you will find some smaller but also beautiful waterfalls.
It is possible to hike to the waterfall from Seydisfjordur if you follow the Vesturvegur road. The walk takes about 50 minutes from the center.
Location: Vesturvegur, Seydisfjordur, Iceland.
