The top of Bolderberg, located in nature reserve De Wijers in Heusden-Zolder, is a natural viewpoint offering breathtaking views over the ponds and the castle of Terlaemen. This peaceful spot combines nature, history, and spiritual heritage, making it a unique place to visit in Limburg.
The Hermitage and Chapel of Our Lady of Loreto
At the summit, you’ll find a small hermitage and the charming Chapel of Our Lady of Loreto. The hermitage’s history dates back to 1672 when Lambert Hoelen, the first hermit, stayed in Loreto, Italy. Inspired by the simplicity of the pilgrimage house there, he decided to recreate it upon his return.
Today, the hermitage remains inhabited, and the chapel is open to visitors, offering a quiet space for reflection and prayer.
A Pilgrim’s Gesture for World Peace
When visiting Bolderberg, you can take part in a symbolic tradition: bring a pebble and leave it at the pilgrim’s cross. This act represents a personal contribution to world peace, adding a meaningful touch to your visit.
