Jungfraujoch: a Visit to the Top of Europe

A visit to the Jungfraujoch in Switzerland is a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed. The Jungfraujoch is located 3454 m (11332ft) above sea level, surrounded by the famous mountains: the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. From the Sphinx Observation Deck you'll have the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss Alps. You can reach the Jungfraujoch by one of the most popular train journeys in the world. Step on the cogwheel train at Grindelwald, via Kleine Scheidegg you'll arrive at the highest train station in Europe at the Jungfraujoch. Don't forget that you can leave the train at the Eismeer Station for 5 minutes and have a look at the Ischmeer Glacier through one of the viewing windows.

At the Jungfraujoch are a lot of activities to choose from. You can go sledging, skiing or snowboarding at the Snow Park. Take a 45 minutes hike to the Mönchsjochhütte. Visit the Ice Palace, a frosty world with ice sculptures. Buy chocolates at the Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven, the highest chocolate shop in the world. Have a look at the Alpine Sensation exhibition and discover the history of the Jungfraujoch. Or go to the Sphinx Observation Deck and enjoy a great view of the snow-capped peaks and the longest glacier in Europe: the Aletsch Glacier.

Every day, at around 16:30, a parade takes place at Main Street USA and in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle. This parade last for 20 minutes and brings the Disney stories to life. The Heintz Barracks in Bastogne served as the headquarters of the "101st Airborne" with commander General McAuliffe during the famous Battle of the Bulge. This battle was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II.

On December 22, 1944, General McAuliffe made history by pronouncing the famous "Nuts" in response to the request for surrender by the Germans who surrounded the city. At the Bastogne Barracks you can visit the “Nuts” cellar, which illustrates this central episode of the Battle of the Bulge.

Besides the “Nuts” cellar, the Bastogne Barracks houses a very impressive collection of armored vehicles. This collection includes army trucks and tanks(Sherman, Tiger) which are kept in perfect condition by the Vehicle Restoration Centre.
